Horrors and supernatural threats abound in the Marvel Universe. We had a taste of this in Legendary®: Doctor Strange and the Shadows of Nightmare, but now’s the time for something more visceral and monstrous. That’s where the Midnight Sons come in.
Legendary®: Midnight Sons brings monsters and monster hunters together to oppose more terrifying foes. Such creatures (and some of our Heroes) are only able to unleash their full capabilities at night. These include Blade, the daywalking Dhampir, and Jack Russel, the Werewolf by Night. With their presence, we’re bringing back a keyword that debuted in Legendary®: The New Mutants.
Moonlight and Sunlight
Moonlight and Sunlight are ever changing based on the HQ. Moonlight is only in effect when there are more Heroes with odd-numbered costs. Sunlight abilities will only work when there are more even-number costs instead. I guess you could say the odd ones come out at night…
What makes Moonlight and Sunlight most interesting is how it can be actively manipulated by players. By recruiting characters and taking actions in a certain order, you can potentially change the board state from Moonlight to Sunlight and vice versa. Be careful though, as Villains could also benefit from the change!
There are other dangers that only thrive at night. Some are cursed to crave blood as sustenance. Dr. Michael Morbius, the Living Vampire, knows this thirst all too well.
Blood Frenzy
The powerful effects of their craving fuel this all-new keyword, which can be found on both Heroes and Villains. In both cases, Blood Frenzy means “You get +1 for each different VP value you have among cards in your Victory Pile.” For Villains, that means whichever players turn it is at the time.
For example, if your Victory Pile has five cards total with VP values of 0, 1, 1, 2, and 2; Blood Frenzy would provide +3 . Only the values, not the number of cards with them, is important for this keyword. This includes Bystanders, cards that “become” a Villain worth a VP value, and anything currently “Undercover” (such as cards found in Legendary®: Black Widow).
As you make your way through Villains, the power of Blood Frenzy will grow higher and higher for both you and them! Play carefully with it, as well as Moonlight and Sunlight, when Legendary®: Midnight Sons arrives later this Spring.
