If you don’t know the story of Laila Anderson, you’ve got to take some time and check it out. She is a St. Louis Blues superfan and about a year ago she received a bone marrow transplant to help her through a rare autoimmune disease she suffers from. When the Blues won the Stanley Cup she was right there and many people thought she was the best part of their Stanley Cup Celebration. When the Blues players received their Stanley Cup rings, it was shortly thereafter they dropped by to give her one too.
When Upper Deck found out the 2020 NHL® All-Star festivities would be held in St. Louis with the Blues hosting, we knew we had to do something special with Laila. We worked with her dad to create a special trading card honoring her inspirational status in the game, but first, we wanted to have her serve as our Kid Correspondent for the 2020 NHL® All-Star Media Day. Now this is a tricky one as kids selected are put in front of their heroes with scores of media around them. It’s hard to get your questions asked, but Laila was more than a little impressive as this video shows:
After a memorable evening, we sat down with Laila to talk about the event and to open up some hockey cards. Check it out:
On Sunday it came time to do some good. The All-Star Game was over, but hundreds of fans flocked to Upper Deck’s booth to get an authentic autograph of Laila Anderson. We were taking donations for the Be The Match Registry and we couldn’t believe how generous fans were quickly filling our donation bag for the great cause.
Didn’t have a chance to get your Laila Anderson Heroic Inspiration card? You will have another opportunity. Upper Deck will be conducting another signing session with Laila on Saturday, February 22 from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. She will sign for free, but the family will be accepting cash donations for the Be The Match Registry. Let’s try to raise some more funds for this incredibly important cause to honor this awesome young lady!
