Hi everyone,
Here are some clarifications to which main characters you can use in Life is Too Short, related to the recent Rules Update: Mandatory and Optional Main Characters.
Featured Format #5: Life is Too Short
Every point of health is precious, and a single wound can be deadly.
Season: Fall 2019
Dates: October 1st 2019 through December 31st 2019
Rules: Your main character must have exactly 5 printed health at each level. Each supporting character in your deck must have exactly 1 printed health.
You can only have one main character to start the game.
Any main characters that start outside the game must have exactly 5 printed health.
Any supporting characters that start outside the game must have exactly 1 printed health.
Update: There have been some questions such as whether you can use a main character like Wolverine that starts at 5 health and just not bring his Level 3 version that has 6 health.
The short answer is yes.
The medium-length answer is we’ve updated the main character rules as follows:
- If your starting Level 1 main character can level up, you must have at least one Level 2 version it can level up into in your Level-Up zone at the start of the game. And if that Level 2 version can level up, you must bring a Level 3 version it can level up into. And so on.
- If your starting Level 1 main character(s) or any of the main characters you’re required to have in your Level-Up zone (see 1. above) reference becoming, transforming, or otherwise replacing themselves with a specific other main character, you must have the other character(s) there as well.
The long answer can be found here.
Here are some specific clarifications on which main characters you can and can’t use in the Format. (This is not an exhaustive list. It’s just full of examples that should be helpful.)
You can use these main characters (with the listed restrictions, if any):
- Arnim Zola (Crossover 2018): His New Robot Bodies do not violate the rules of Life is Too Short.
- Scarlet Spider (Spider-Friends): Each character in your Spider-Web must have 5 printed health.
- Dardevil, Green Goblin, Mystique, Spider-Man, Wolverine (The Marvel Battles): You can use any of these main characters as long as you don’t bring their alternate Level 2 version and their Level 3 version (found in the Legacy expansion).
You can’t use these main characters:
- Angel (Resistance): He transforms into Archangel who has 6 health.
- Emma Frost (The Utopia Battles): One of her Level 2 versions has 6 health (and you must bring it to the game… which makes it illegal for Life is Too Short).
- Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (Mind and Soul): You can only have one Main Character to start the game (and you must bring both).
- Sister Ripley (The Alien Battles): Her Level 2 transforms into Ripley #8 whose Level 2 has 2 health.
We hope this answers any questions you may have on which Main Characters you can play during the Life is Too Short Featured Format. We look for ward to see what you build.
