Now that the S.H.I.E.L.D. vs. Hydra expansion is out in the wild, we’d like to take a brief moment to talk about the future of Vs System® 2PCG®. The game has exceeded our expectations in a lot of ways. The community and tournament scene has been so great, and the number of stores supporting it with our Organized Play Kits is increasing all the time. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t room to grow, which brings us to our announcement.
Starting in February Vs System® 2PCG® will be moving to a new distribution model. For the past two years, we’ve released seven expansions. That’s an amount of content we’re comfortable with, but we heard from several partners that the space between expansions was causing some concern. This new format is the product of those conversations with distributors and retailers and with you, our players. We’d like to introduce a new type of expansion that is smaller (around 55 cards) and comes out more regularly (roughly once a month).
This is an important change because it means content will be coming out more consistently and allow us to explore some new characters and designs that we may not have otherwise looked at. These small expansions will be called Issues and will center around a specific theme. Issues will contain new Main and Supporting Characters, Equipment, Plot Twists, and special Locations. Now let’s dig a bit deeper. Each Issue will be part of a larger Arc that revolves around a character, storyline, or theme. Issues within an Arc will explore that character, storyline, or theme in a specific way.
What about the old style of expansions? The old small-boxes (A-Force, Defenders, Legacy, etc.) will still be used in some cases and will be called Giant-Sized Issues. These Issues can be standalone or might be part of an Arc. The big box style (Monsters Unleashed) will retire for the time being.
Now that that’s out of the way, I’d like to introduce the first Arc that begins in February, The Beginning. This Arc will be 3 Issues and takes its cues from the New Mutants storyline that first introduced Deadpool. Keep an eye out for previews that will begin in December.
In the meantime, make sure you grab Vs System® 2PCG® S.H.I.E.L.D. vs Hydra when it hits retail shelves on 11/29.

If this is truly the way things are going to go for VS I want 2 things. For each “issue” to be completely spoiled ahead of time so I know if I want to buy it, and all “issues” to be readily available after release in case something in it combos well with something that releases later.
Let’s continue with the what the purpose of VS System originally was. It shouldn’t be considered as “primarily” a Marvel card game. Let’s continue with what has been done with Aliens and Predators and continue bringing in other content than just pulling from Marvel.
I understand the difficulties of IP and contracts, so I’ll remain hopeful.
Will UD have any sort of organized support for local stores? I cannot find any stores, at all, in my local area that either carry this or have people who would play. With no support or promotion I am concerned I am buying a dead product.
Why does the Deadpool banner ad on Board Game Geek take me here? There is no information about the Deadpool release here. Method of distribution doesn’t tell me anything.
