Explore the origins of Wolverine as he undergoes his transformation into Weapon X. Logan’s past catches up to him in this new set with both allies and adversaries. The clandestine experiments of the Weapon Plus program are collected in this 100-card box expansion Legendary®: Weapon X.
Berserk again and again and again…
Fan-favorite keyword Berserk makes a comeback with this set. As a reminder, you discard the top card of your deck, and you get + [ATTACK] equal to the discards card’s printed [ATTACK]. Cards with multiple instances of Berserk happen one at a time. If you have Berserk, Berserk, Berserk, you will discard three cards in a row, receiving each of their printed [ATTACK]. Consider recruiting Heroes with large [Attack] values to maximize your Berserk potential. Some Heroes such as Weapon X (Wolverine) will even pair gaining or KOing wounds with their Berserk effects, these will even come in handy with the new Wounds we will discuss later…
Berserk Villains
New to this expansion, Weapon X’s adversaries from days past come back to hunt him down with their own Berserking rage. When you attempt to fight an enemy that has Berserk, discard the top card of your deck. That enemy the receives + [ATTACK] equal to the discarded card’s printed [ATTACK]
Failing a Berserk Fight
If a Berserk Enemy gains enough [ATTACK] to cause your fight to fail, you then resolve the Fail portion of their effect. Consider what might be remaining in your deck before you fight a villain with Berserk. You may not like the consequences…
Weapon X Sequence
The relentless pursuit for the perfect weapon led the Weapon Plus program to create a series of progressively more powerful beings. With Weapon X Sequence you get +[ATTACK] equal to the longest sequence of different printed costs on your cards. This counts cards that are in play and those that are still in your hand. As an example, say you have cards with costs 0,2,3,4,7 you will receive +3 because of the sequence within the numbers 2-3-4. Your sequence starts with any number including 0, so at any time no matter what you will always have a +1 to Weapon X sequence. Fantomex has costs ranging from one to four to assist in the gaps between your sequences. As you add Heroes to your deck, consider the costs you are adding when building towards large sequences!
Villains with Weapon X Sequence
Villains that have Weapon X Sequence work with the same principle except they are considering the different costs among cards in the HQ. Players will have the opportunity to disrupt a Villains Weapon X sequence by recruiting heroes from the HQ.
For example, if your HQ contained the following 4,7,5,2,3 as costs, then the Villain will receive a bonus of +4 for the sequence of 2-3-4-5
You can disrupt the Villain’s Weapon X Sequence by recruiting heroes that will break the chain. If you were to recruit a 3-cost hero in the above example and it is replaced with another 4-cost hero, then the bonus only goes up to +2 [ATTACK]
Printed [ATTACK} and Printed Cost
As a reminder a card’s printed cost or printed [ATTACK] refers to the printed number in those icons. You will be ignoring any symbols or effects modifying these values. A value of * is considered as 0.
Enraging Wounds
This expansion introduces a new set of 10 unique wounds to reflect the rage and pain Weapon X underwent. These wounds also have their own unique ways to heal them. KO abilities on Enraging wounds do not stop you from recruiting or fighting that turn. Additionally, any Enraging Wounds you played for their recruit or ATK can be KOed if you have met their requirement. Enraging Wounds for all intents and purposes still count as wounds for card effects and can be KOed with a Wound’s healing effect.
Let’s now take a look at two schemes you will find in Weapon X
Go After Heroes Loved Ones
This new Scheme will have you monitoring the HQ closely. Every time you draw a Scheme Twist the Hero in the rightmost HQ space will lose a “Loved One”. Once you Hero loses all their loved ones they will become “Lost in Grief” and will be KOed completely from your HQ and Hero Deck. Manage your HQ responsibly and keep on eye on your “Loved Ones”!
Wipe Heroes Memories
In this Scheme you will be fighting Villains while you “forget your past”. Anytime you draw a Scheme Twist, a Villain or Mastermind Tactic from your Victory Pile will be placed face down at the bottom of the Victory Pile and the Scheme Twist will be shuffled back into the Villain Deck to continue the process in the future. If you do not have any “memories” the Twist will stack as a “Total Memory Wipe” next to the scheme. Be mindful of using effects that send away Villains or Tactics from your Victory Pile!
