This week we wanted to share the insights and thoughts behind the creatives who illustrated the 25th Anniversary Celebration Set. You will have the opportunity to get to know the artist behind all the adorable new Baby Neopets. Read ahead to learn more about Fernanda Inostroza and her work.

Tell us a little about yourself and your creative background.
I’m Fernanda Inostroza (FerWanwan), a 30 years old self-taught digital artist from Chile, viva Chile!!! Started working full time as a freelancer in November 2017.
When I was a kid, around 7 years old, I would request my dad to draw a Pokémon for me every time I went to play outside with my friends. I was so incredibly happy every time I came back to a piece of his art. This made me realize the joy of art; creating art and appreciating how many feelings it can bring to someone. Art is a love language for me.
Curious fact: I graduated with a psychology degree, but art was a dream to me, so I decided to follow my heart instead and I’m so happy I made that decision.
What does your design process look like when illustrating a card?
When I think of a Neopet, almost instantly I get to imagine their personality and what they would be doing. I start sketching with that idea in mind, the base sketch is sometimes very hard to understand and doesn’t always look very pleasing haha, so I have to do a cleaner sketch over the initial one.
What was your favorite card you illustrated for this set?
I loved working on every single one! But one of them has a personal space in my heart.
The baby Lupe.
It brings me many memories and I own one myself.
The background set is inspired in a NC item called “Sweet Dreams Crib”. One of the first NC items I owned.

What has been the biggest influence on your art style?
Childhood movies, Pokémon and Neopets have a huge influence in my artwork! I used to pause the movies and draw what’s on the screen when I was a kid.
I also loved to make characters for my Neopets and still do! I’m sure the little me would be impressed and happy to see the evolution.
As I said before art is a love language for me, so on top of everything my husbands is my biggest inspiration.
If you could create any new card in the Neopets Battledome TCG, what would it be?
My husband and I Neopet sonas… no?…
In all seriousness I would LOVE to see plushie Neopets, it’s one of my favorite paintbrush color! That would be adorable. No one dare to hurt the babies and plushies.
Do you have anything else you would like to share?
Just a huge thank you for letting me be part of this amazing project! It’s such a dream come true. I’m so happy and smile every time I think of it.
I couldn’t have made it to this day without my husband and my mom who always believed in me and also every follower who enjoys my artwork, that support means so much to me! I see you there.
