If you have joined us the past couple weeks on our livestreams, you know that Bobby and I have been doing some collaborative deck building to showcase a couple of the possibilities you will find in Defenders of Neopia. We have also taken a dive into tips and tricks of deck building in Neopets Battledome Trading Card Game that will be helpful for new and veteran players alike. You can check out this article I wrote last week that transcribes much of what we discussed during these streams.
Today, I will be highlighting the two sample decklists that Bobby and I built on stream. Bobby put together a Queen Fyora deck with Battle Faerie Equipment synergies and I built a Ghost-focused deck with Jhudora as my go-to Faerie. Let’s check them out.
Queen Fyora’s Battle Faeries
In the Defenders of Neopia base set, you will find a handful of cards with the words “Battle Faerie” on them. These cards synergize strongly with other cards like Queen Fyora and Blackwing that reveal cards from your deck. All of the Battle Faerie cards have an alternate way to play them and can create some powerful chains during gameplay. Bobby put together an awesome sample decklist for you. Check it out:
Goal of the Deck
The main goal of the Queen Fyora’s Battle Faeries deck is to set up a powerful engine of continuous unblockable damage and strong attacks using Faerie Neopets, Queen Fyora, Battle Faerie Equipment, and Legends that reveal cards from your deck. With these pieces combined, you can string together a fierce combo of cards that is likely to present a formidable threat to your opponent! Here are some key cards you will want to be familiar with when building this deck:
Queen Fyora Art by Anthony Conley
Faerie Kau and Battle Faerie Dagger Art by Krista Staggs
These cards (and many others like them) will be some of your best options in Defenders of Neopia when putting together a Battle Faerie deck! With multiple copies and redundancy across different cards, the consistency of your deck to hit its powerful combos increases dramatically! The engine certainly presents a lot of triggers and abilities to keep track of, but it is very rewarding the more adept you become at it.
Jhudora’s Aggressive Ghosts
The other deck archetype I will be highlighting today is one led by Jhudora and focuses on Ghost Neopets and discard strategies to be aggressive, looking to knockout the opponent’s Neopet as fast as possible. In most TCGs, this is referred to as Aggro (short for “aggressive”) and that’s exactly what we hope to accomplish with this as well. Similarly to Battle Faerie cards, “Jhudora” cards have an alternate option to playing them when they are sent to the discard from your deck or inventory. I will show a few key cards later. Here is a sample decklist I made:
Goal of the Deck
The main goal of the Jhudora’s Aggressive Ghosts deck is to create a consistent engine of cards like Jhudora, Ghost Neopets, Jhudora’s Equipment, and Legends that send cards to your discard. This suite of options allows you to play multiple cards in a turn and create an armory of powerful equipment. The added bonus of Jhudora’s ability to recur cards from your discard lets you implore this goal over multiple rounds as well. Here are some key cards you will want to be familiar with for this deck:
Jhudora Art by Anthony Conley
Ghost Ixi Art by Jeep Joop
Jhudora’s Cursed Sword Art by Karine Ellen Berno
When building a deck that utilizes Jhudora cards, you always want to prioritize cards that “discard” or send cards to you discard. This enables them to be played (in addition to your standard card played for turn) and generate huge amounts of Attack or Defence every turn! This is exactly the sort of output we look for in aggro deck like this. And just like with the Battle Faerie archetype, the more you practice, the more rewarding it becomes.
Keep playing and brainstorming in Defenders of Neopia. There is a plethora of fun and interesting ways to play the Neopets Battledome Trading Card Game and it will only get better as the game grows! Come hang out with me and Bobby on Twitch.Tv/Upper_Deck this Friday, June 21 at 10:00am PST (1:00pm EST) for a closer look at these decks. We will actually be playing them against each other! You can see both archetypes in action with professional commentary and discussion around them. Until then… see you in the Battledome.
