Welcome back for more Vs. System® 2PCG®: AEW! Last time we took a look at Challenge Matches, an all new feature for the game debuting in this box. It’s not the only one, though. If you’ve been keeping up with our reveals you might’ve seen a certain something on Main Characters.
That’s right, we’re spotlighting AEW Champions by giving a special designation to certain Main Characters. While this won’t affect the card itself, it will give it synergy with other cards. For example the AEW World Championship Belt can only be equipped on Champions. Thanks to Le Champion, nobody’s taking Chris Jericho’s inaugural status from the title either.
Another new feature goes the other direction – instead of raising up a single Champion this one’s all about teamwork.
Tag Team lets you power up a character by discarding their Tag Team partner. When this is done you’ll gain the usual +1/+1 counter as well as the listed effect. For example, if you’ve played Rey Fénix you’d be able to discard a Penta El Zero Miedo from your hand. This would give Rey Fénix a +1/+1 counter and let him strike with triple his ATK during that combat.
Also new to this issue are abilities that check to see if a character “wins a combat.” So long as the character makes it through resolution without getting stunned, and at least one enemy character in the combat was stunned, they have “won” that combat.
Be sure to utilize every power and skill you’ve got to ensure you’re winning combat when it counts. Some powers outright cancel combat, like Kenny Omega’s The Elite. These are great for stopping big plays from your opponent, and work as another electrifying way to bring the show stopping reversals of the ring to your table!
