Welcome to Space Jam A New Legacy: Serververse Showdown!
The rogue artificial intelligence Al-G Rhythm has captured you in the Serververse. Now you must break free by recruiting a team of Looney Tunes characters and basketball superstars like LeBron James to fight in the Serververse Showdown!
Will you win your freedom, or will you be trapped in the Serververse forever?
Based on the 2021 movie Space Jam: A New Legacy, this all-new card game for ages 6+ gives players an opportunity to recruit and shoot their way to victory over Al-G Rhythm and the Goon Squad. Setup is quick and gameplay is fast, making it ground for parties and family game nights. Let’s learn how to play, and see if we can make it out of the Serververse together!
Each of the two to five players will have two zones in front of them: The Court and The Bench. Each zone can contain up to three characters, and the actions they can take will depend on where they are in either zone.
Players will start the game with one card each from the Game Deck. The Game Deck will be filled with players from both the Tune Squad and Goon Squad, and are what you’ll be drawing most of the time. These characters go onto your Bench or Court, use special abilities, and will shoot to help you earn points.
On your turn, you must attempt to add a new member to your team by Recruiting the top card of the Game Deck. To Recruit, guess if the next card on the Game Deck will be either higher or lower in power than the right most card on your Court. Depending on how your guess went, one of two things will happen:
- If you’re correct, the character is recruited! You’ll add them to the leftmost empty spot on your Court. If there are already three cards on your Court, you’ll eject the farthest left card to recruit.
- If you’re incorrect, the character is not recruited. They’ll instead be added to your Bench, filling the leftmost empty spot. Again, if there are already three cards on the Bench, the farthest left card will be ejected to make room for your new one.
Once the card is placed in either your Court or Bench, you’ll activate its card text. Some only activate when the card is recruited, so if you’re warming the bench you won’t get those effects.
Certain cards from the Game Deck will have a Hacked! icon – . Once drawn, you’ll reveal the top card of Al-G Rhythm’s VR Deck. These cause new rules to be put in place, like altering the amount of points your cards can earn, or even forcing you to give cards to your opponents! Hacked effects always activate, even if the card isn’t successfully recruited – there’s no escape from Al-G Rhythm’s control of the Serververse!
Now that you’ve gotten some new players and are handling Hacks, it’s time to take action. After recruit attempts, players can perform two of the following three actions:
-
- Shoot – Each card has a number of basketballs on it, representing the number of points that player can score. You can choose any of your characters on your Court to Shoot, taking cards from the top of the Game Deck equal to the number of basketballs. These go into a side pile as your points, and are crucial to winning the Serververse Showdown!
- Glitch – You can willingly eject a card from your bench, letting you use that card’s power a second time. This frees up space for new cards, and can help you make plays to get more points or affect your opponents.
- Substitute – This lets you move a card from your Bench to a spot on your Court, or vice versa. If the spot you’re moving to was already filled, you swap the cards’ positions, but you can also Substitute into open spaces in either Zone.
The game continues until a player scores 21 points, or the Game Deck is empty. Whoever has the most points will win their freedom from the Serververse! For everyone else…well, at least you’re stuck with Bugs Bunny.
