Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Calling all Legendary Gamers! Last year we reached out to influencers known throughout the board game world; including Bageltop Gaming, SAHM Reviews, How It Plays, Quackalope, Roll for Crit, and Tantrum Reviews. They all received and shared a sneak preview of our Legendary Boxes which contained personalized playable Legendary Gamer cards. With their help we found gamers who have made a positive impact on the gaming community and brought people together through gaming.
The winner of this competition received a trip to Gen Con 2022. Last Month at the convention we were able to meet up with a couple of our winners in person and enjoy some Legendary moments! Today we’re thrilled to share their stories with all of you. The top three winners from the 2021 Legendary Gamer Contest include: Aaron Moring D’Angier, Benjamin Brozene and Monty Hill.
Aaron grew up in the 90’s but didn’t get to know Upper Deck’s gaming products until he first saw them at Gen Con. He is a teacher who saw an opportunity to bring games directly into the classroom and shows his peers the benefits of using gaming in education. His goal is to help his students learn a variety of educational topics. He develops lesson plans and rubrics that create successful learning environments for all his students.
“When I see my students graduate and they look back on the work that they’ve accomplished and one of the noteworthy events is when we played a game in class or when they designed their own game to share – that’s when I know that they have made memories that stick. And with those memories also come the educational bits we can sneak in there at the same time.”
Now follow us as we journey to visit Benjamin Brozene. Benjamin or Mr. Ben as he’s known by many, shared a story of how a hurricane left his town with no power for over a week. During that first week, every night, he and his kids would use lanterns to play board games together. He is an extremely passionate gamer who is a huge fan of Upper Deck’s VS 2PCG. It is his involvement in the VS community that shows his commitment to leaving a positive impact on the gaming world.
“Let me put it like this: VS is a fantastic game, which lays the foundation. The community is bright, and helpful, and cheery, and respectful and funny and fun; which is like the building constructed upon that foundation. My show and events are kind of like decorating that house.”
Finally, we turn to Monty Hill! He was introduced to Legendary by coworkers who knew he loved Marvel. He joined his friends one night at a gaming store and they played a few games with the core set. That was all it took and he was hooked. He now “Eats, Breathes and Lives” Legendary! We learned from his entry that he not only used gaming for a past time but as a way to survive the difficult situations life brought his way. And even in those difficult times he brought people together with his passion for gaming.
We are proud to have Monty Hill as our Ultimate Legendary Gamer! When asked how it feels to be the winner of the contest, he shared this with us. “I’ve been in love with the Legendary Deck Building game since I first encountered it. So, to be named the first ever Legendary Gamer is euphoric.”
