Space can be a vast and lonely place to grow up in, but that’s exactly what young Peter Quill went through. Abducted by the Ravagers as a child, he’d grow up to be the retro-obsessed outlaw known as Star-Lord (or at least that’s what he tells people to call him.) Through a pair of interstellar adventures and a pretty sweet soundtrack, he’d meet a new team that would go on to become like family. They also happen to be a batch of misfits just like him…
That brings us to the Guardians of the Galaxy, and more specifically in this case, Legendary®: Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy! This latest expansion is a cosmic rewind through both Guardians of the Galaxy films, with characters and objects from them melding with the deck building gameplay you know and love. You can play this one with any other Legendary® expansions, including other cinematic sets or even our original Legendary®: Guardians of the Galaxy box.
That’s enough with the buildup – time for some cards!
Triggered Artifacts
For Legendary fans, the Guardians and Artifacts go together like a talking raccoon and a vocabularily challenged tree. Naturally, they’re back with a new and crafty twist as Triggered Artifacts. Every Artifact in this set is of this new variety, often representing weaponry or ships.
Just like with other types of Artifacts, when you play a Triggered Artifact it’s placed in front of you. You’re now “controlling” that Artifact, and it’ll remain in front of you even after you’ve discarded your hand for the turn!
What sets a Triggered Artifact apart from other, previous Artifacts is that they’ll say things like “Triggered Artifact – Whenever you draw a card during your turn, you get +1”. That means every time you do that trigger, you get that listed effect! Over time these can really add up, and give you consistent rewards for playing your cards right.
Speaking of playing things right, remember that raccoon and tree we mentioned earlier?
The Guardians of the Galaxy are known for being adaptable and changing plans on the fly, and to reflect that we’ve brought back Divided Cards for this expansion. Previously seen in both Legendary®: Civil War and Legendary®: X-Men, each Divided Card is really two miniature cards printed on the same card.
Even though a Divided Card has two costs printed on it, you’ll only be paying once to recruit it. When played, you’ll only choose one half of the card to play – you’ll generate all (attack), (recruit), and special abilities as normal for that half. The other half, you’ll ignore entirely once you’ve played it that turn.
That said, while a Divided Card is in your hand, deck, or the HQ it still gets to count as all of its Hero Classes, Teams, card names, and Hero Names for the sake of other card effects.
