Every year gamers join together with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in order to do something truly remarkable. Extra Life has existed for 13 years now, and in that time over 87 million dollars have been raised to fund treatment and healthcare for children across the country. For five of those years, thanks to a dedicated fan, Upper Deck’s Legendary® deck-building game has been a part of this life-changing program.
Jason Walker has been supporting this cause for half a decade now. For him, it’s not just about giving to those who need it most by playing a game that he’s passionate about – it’s something more personal. As detailed on his Legendary® Extra Life page, shortly after he was born, Walker spent a week in newborn intensive care receiving care that saved his life. In more recent years his oldest son was diagnosed with autism at UVA Children’s Hospital.
That connection made it Walker’s hospital of choice for his annual Extra Life donation. Each year he sets a goal of $980 in honor of his son’s birthday (September 8th), and is already responsible for over $3,500 donated to UVA by playing Legendary®. This year he’s already met that goal, raising $1,875 and counting as of this writing. Thanks to that outpouring of support from Legendary® fans, he’ll be playing for over 24-hours beginning November 5th at 3:00 p.m. PT.
Those who donate at least $10 to Walker’s page are able to decide on cards he’ll have to play with and against during that time, and are able to receive custom commemorative token cards with a donation of $25. Based on the total amount of donations, more playtime and conditions can be applied to his Extra Life stream, bringing in the community surrounding this deck-building game in exciting ways despite the solo set-up.
We applaud all the effort Walker is putting into this great cause while playing Legendary®, and we wish him the best in this annual philanthropic event.
