It’s fun to have a collecting goal. Something that’s not easy, that you really have to stretch for and will take some time. You know thought that once you complete the achievement, there’s no greater feeling. Larry B. had a lofty goal like that and here he is to tell you about it to help celebrate #SetCollectorSaturday.
“I finally finished my Draft Day Marks project spelling NHL FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS. In the end it consists of players from 22 different teams and it will likely continue to transform as it has over the last few months putting it together. When I can add a rare one or one from a team I don’t have. Along the way I wound up helping three different collectors trying to finish rare versions from the sets over the years like Joe Sakic.
“This process got me thinking a lot about my First Round Draft Pick personal collection and thanks to Upper Deck it also began to transform again. I collect a Young Gun and UD RC Auto for every NHL First Round Draft Pick. Where I can I have been replacing my regular UD RC’S with 30th Anniversary 1-of-1 versions. I added nine of them so far as well as a few 20th and 10th anniversary versions as well. Also, thanks to Chronology the autograph part of my collection continues to grow. By adding a Gary Monahan I now have an auto and RC of the first ever First Round Draft Pick.
“It’s amazing to look at it next to a player like Tobias Bjornfot from the 2019 draft. The fact that there is 56 years of hockey history between them absolutely blows my mind and I can’t wait until 2023 when my collection will span the entire 60 year history of the NHL Draft.
“I’m hoping for a good bonus from work in a few weeks so I can get a Sydney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin Young Guns Rookie Cards to complete every player from 2000 forward then I will continue to work backwards from 1990 where I started. Thanks to all the great collectors who have traded with me and helped me grow and improve my set!”
