Last year Upper Deck offered fans the change to get their dad inserted in the stands behind a player on a classic Upper Deck NHL card. The response was so amazing we had to bring the program back again this year. These deserving dads received a digital card on Father’s Day and will receive a blow-up version in the mail soon!
Brandon shared, “My dad has grown up collecting hockey cards and as introduced me to the hobby at a very young age. Not only is he an avid hockey card collector, he just so happens to be a major Connor McDavid fan. I recall the times seeing Connor play for the Eerie Otters in person with my father, and seeing just how incredible and skilled he was even at a young age. My dad’s been my role model my entire life and has provided me with so my amazing opportunities, seeing my hero next to Connor McDavid would be a dream come true. Thank you, Upper Deck for the memories you’ve provided us with over the years and will be excited to see you guys at the next Sport Card Expo in Toronto!”
Sam says, “My lifelong goal is to be the best dad possible. There is no blueprint to be a perfect dad, but I will try to be the best dad I can be.”
Amanda nominated her husband and she had this to say about him, “My husband loves sports to his core. He is a hockey goalie, Cheers for the Ottawa Senators no matter what, and always shares his love of hockey with his children. He takes our daughter to hockey games, and is looking forward to doing the same with our son once hockey starts again. Until then, he’s watching reruns of old games on tv with them. He has been collecting cards since he was a child, and is looking forward to sharing that hobby with our children. Every year we do a tour of the Ottawa/Gatineau region to local card shops to celebrate National Hockey Card Day. But above all, he is a doting, loving father, who loves his children more than anything. If he could be made into a hockey card, it would be amazing.”
We liked the story of Keyang Li. His father lives in China while he attends studies in Vancouver, “To be honest, compared to other hockey dads in Canada or the United States, my dad is not a huget hockey fan. He began to watch and understand ice hockey and my favorite team the Vancouver Canucks so we could have more in common and more to talk about. Now he is a super fan of Canucks. My favorite player Jake Virtanen has also become his favorite player. “
Sheri considers her husband Jeff to be the best stay at home dad a 3 ½-year-old could ask for. They LOVE watching the Minnesota Wild together!
Logan is a 7-year-old who nominated his dad Kevin. He said, “My dad’s favourite team is the Toronto Maple Leafs and his favourite player is Auston Matthews. My dad taught me how to play hockey, he is the coach for my team. My favourite things to do with my dad is play hockey, go for bike rides and go to the driving range. Please select my dad, he really is the best and it would make Father’s Day unforgettable!
We had one other deserving dad we wanted to add to the mix for this program. Stacey is an active member of the hobby community especially on Twitter known as @Beaglepapa71. Stacey is well known for helping collectors out and trading with others online. While he didn’t formally submit an entry into the promotion, we know him to be a good dad and hard-core Oilers fan. We just had to add him to the back of the classic Connor McDavid Young Guns rookie card!
What did it cost these families? Absolutely nothing. Upper Deck loves taking time to thank our fans for their support and we budget time and money to do so through the company’s Random Acts of Kindness program. This innovative gift will have these dads and their friends talking for some time to come.
