Welcome to the start of previews for the First Family Arc for Vs. System 2PCG, an Arc featuring for the first time the Fantastic Four (and their Frightful enemies)! Today is the first of five previews for the first (200 card) Issue in the Arc! It’s going to be a doozy, so let’s jump right in!
As you probably know, there are four (4) primary characters in the Fantastic Four and we are going to cover them all today as well as a stretched out genius scientist would.
Up first we have the main man, Reed Richards himself!
Perhaps not surprisingly, he is able to call on his friends and family!
Remember that Invisible means “This character doesn’t protect characters and can attack protected characters.” And that Invisibility means “At the end of your turn, if this character is ready, you may hide her.” (Oh, and that hide means turn her face down but ready.) So you get to decide when using the Invisible Woman’s Where’d She Go? if she’s going to be aggressive and attack whoever she likes, or if she will hide to prepare for next turn.
Once he calls on the rest of the first family, what does Mister Fantastic’s Level 2 do?
Well, just what does Invention mean? Before we look at that, let’s look at Reed’s supporting character too…
Shrink means “When this character is attacked for the first time each turn, you may cancel the combat.” And Tough, of course, means “When this character gets stunned, you may recover him. He still gets wounded. Sounds like a real pain!
Right, right, but what about Invention? That sounds cool! I agree! Let’s go to the rules!
There are many Invention cards in this Issue. They never start in your deck, but in an “Invention pile” that starts outside the game instead. Here’s more on how they work:
- If you have any characters that can create an Invention (inventors) in your deck, you get a single Invention pile (even if you have multiple different inventors in your deck).
- Invention piles are secret (only you know their contents).
- The Invention pile contains copies of each Invention card without a team affiliation and copies of each Invention card that shares a team affiliation with an inventor in your deck.
- The quantity of each card is equal to its Invention number (the number in parentheses after Invention).
- In this Issue, each Invention without a team affiliation is Invention (1) and each Invention with a team affiliation is either Invention (2) or Invention (4).
- Note that the Invention number is the maximum number of Invention cards with that name that can be in a single Invention pile, even if you have more than one different inventor who can create that particular Invention.
- When a character on your side creates an Invention, secretly choose an Invention card from your Invention pile that either has no team affiliation or that shares a team affiliation with the inventor and put it into your hand.
This last bit is interesting – as you can see, Mister Fantastic Level 2 can get each copy of these cards instead of just one!
But…what…are…the…Inventions!?!?! Great question, voice in my head! Here’s one now!
We are aware that Reed didn’t invent the Negative Zone, but he did discover it and he found a gateway to it. Note that although this location has a team affiliation, a main character from any team can pay for it.
Note #2: For the choice, “Heal a character” means ” Heal 1 wound from a character, not all wounds. As I’m sure you figured out because the choices are all opposites!
There are many more Inventions and inventors as well. Just be patient.
Now that you made me go down this rabbit hole, there are several cards that refer to the Negative Zone specifically that we should probably let you know about.
Blastaar is so incorrigible, this isn’t his preview!
Now that we have Valeria, we couldn’t leave without showing you Franklin, could we?
We could! But you won’t have to wait long!
Hope you liked the cards today, and did we mention that this is our wackiest and most ambitious Issue yet?
See you next time!
Vs. System 2PCG: The Fantastic Battles arrive on May 13th!
