National Hobby Shop Day is Saturday, December 7, 2019 and if there’s one thing I love, it’s walking through the doors of a hobby shop. I’ve been blessed to see a lot of them in my line of work and I love how each location offers something different to their customers. I’ve found some of the coolest things at shops I’ve visited and it’s great time of year to get out to support small businesses.
If you’re on the fence about getting out and visiting some shops taking part in the promotion, get over it! National Hobby Shop Day is a really fun promotion sponsored by our friends and GTS Distribution that has grown in size and scale in the United States over the years. Check out this list of participating retailers to plan out who you will visit!
Still not sure? Well here are my TOP SEVEN reasons that I hope you will get out and visit some shops this Saturday:
#7 – Make some trades! Shop owners are always game to work deals with their loyal fans, but so are other collectors. Bring in some of your cards from your “trade bait” section of your collection and add some items to your collection you’ve been on the hunt for!
#6 – Shops will be full and lively during the event. There’s always great energy and buzz in busy shops. Plus there will be a lot of product opened. It’s always exciting to see boxes and cases busted in a packed house.

And you just never know what you’ll find in packs as we saw just this week!
#5 – As I shared, every hobby shop is different! Get out and visit as many as you can. You won’t believe some of the treasures you’ll discover of these shops! Make sure to share any unique finds with us at @UpperDeckSports and @GTSDistribution using the hashtags #NationalHobbyShopDay or #NHSD.
#4 – With the holidays upon us, it’s the perfect time to score a gift for a loved one. For the office, it’s also a good place to find an interesting white elephant gift too. Upper Deck Jox Box anyone? I actually just bought one of these as a gift for my son this Christmas. I hope he doesn’t read the Upper Deck Blog!
#3 – Grab some packs for yourself or to help stuff stockings with! And remember, never leave that last pack behind. You never know what’s hiding in those!!!
#2 – Upper Deck, leagues and other manufacturers provided GTS with some cool prizes that will be shared with shops for the event. Participating shops always do a great job of chipping in with their own awesome prizes as well. Definitely reach out to shops you’ll be visiting to see what specials, promotions and giveaways they’ll be running for National Hobby Shop Day!
#1 – They will feed you. Seriously. Many of the shops know the way to their customer’s hearts is through their stomachs so they bring in all sorts of goodies. Let’s just take a look at some of the cuisine we’ve seen at three of my favorite CDD’s on National Hobby Shop Day.
RbiCru7 Sports Cards & Collectibles in Florissant, MO brings a hobby staple to the shop in pizza. Just make sure to use napkins before handling the cards.
Mike’s Stadium Sportscards in Aurora, CO will usually appeal to your sweet side with a variety of tasty treats like these!
The best spread I’ve seen though is from Alan Narz at Big League Cards in Orlando. Look at this!
