At Upper Deck, we love surprising our fans. Unannounced “Easter Egg” surprise content in products has been something we’ve been leading the category on for years. In particular we love these types of surprises on new brands. One we have created is too cool not to share details on however. Recently we shared an image gallery of the new NHL® Chronology, but something we haven’t shared is that there will be five exchange cards for premium memorabilia items.
The first one up is Doug Gilmour’s 1987 Canada Cup Championship ring. Here are details on that item:
First representing his nation as a teenager at the World Juniors in 1981, Doug Gilmour would go on to become a contributing member of the Team Canada squad that defeated the USSR in a three-game final at the 1987 Canada Cup. That ‘87 team is viewed as one of the greatest international Canadian squads of all-time! Upper Deck has the Canada Cup Team Canada 10K gold and diamond ring that was presented to the HOFer. Size 9 with an approx. weight of 11 grams, a Canadian half maple leaf sits raised over the tableau encompassed by “Coupe Canada Cup,” with four diamonds inserted beneath. The left shank has the year “1987” engraved, with “Gilmour” on the right. The inner band is stamped “10K,” along with “MacGregor.”
What’s really cool though is that whoever pulls the exchange card for this item won’t just receive it as a stand alone piece. Always innovating, Upper Deck is creating a shadowbox display for these items. This historic ring will be encased in a “Museum Collection” paper and acrylic card. The ring will be placed on the top of the card, featuring acrylic facings on three sides and strategically placed at a 45-degree angle so it will view nicely.
Look for details on the other four redemption items soon!
