Upper Deck does a lot to engage kids. I was able to check out their booth at the 2018 NHL Winter Classic® and it was cool to see what they were doing. I was able to get my very own Upper Deck card there for free and there were lots of other “kids” of all ages taking part.
Now that game was COLD! What’s fun about collecting is that it is a great hobby to enjoy in the warmth of your house when it’s cold outside. I was excited to try out some of the 2017-18 NHL® Upper Deck Series One cards.
It is a lot of fun to find special cards from insert sets sprinkled in the packs. I got a UD Canvas Tobias Rieder card, a Sergei Bobrovsky Shining Stars card, an Eric Staal UD Portraits and Centennial Standouts cards from current and former hockey legends such as Bobby Orr, Chris Chelios and Zdeno Chara.
The most anticipated cards in these packs are the Upper Deck Young Guns rookie cards. You can find about six of them hidden in the 24 packs included in each hobby box. The Young Guns cards are some of the most sought after cards Upper Deck makes, and to find them, you get to go through all 192 cards. It takes patience and perseverance, but finding them is rewarding and very much worth it.
The Young Guns cards in the packs I opened included Sabres left wing C.J. Craig, Islanders right wing Josh Ho-Sang, and Flyers defenseman Robert Hagg. The Young Guns collection focuses on the NHL® rookies and there are plenty to chase this season from players like Nico Hischier, Brock Boeser and Charlie McAvoy.
The 2017-18 NHL® Upper Deck Series One cards honor the NHL’s history and present, while the Young Guns cards represent the future of hockey. They are all excellent collectibles!
