Upper Deck’s ‘World of Sports’ Returns with Top Sports Stars and ‘Evolution’ Video Cards
Posted by: | CommentsOne of the surprise hits of last year’s trading card releases was Upper Deck’s “World of Sports” product as it offered collectors a unique pack opening experience with star athletes from basketball, baseball, swimming, skiing, ice hockey, figure skating, golf, lacrosse and mixed martial arts. The set returns arriving in stores today and it offers the same great diversity of top tier athletes, but mixes in some unique surprises like “Evolution” video cards as well.
Boasting a bigger base set than last year and the inclusion of football stars to the set, Upper Deck’s “World of Sports” set is sure to be a fan favorite. It features 400 cards from athletes like Nolan Ryan, Don Mattingly and Mike Schmidt from baseball; LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Jimmer Fredette from basketball; Bo Jackson, Drew Brees and Cam Newton from football; and Sidney Crosby, Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux from hockey. Mix in other premium stars from soccer, golf, horse racing, mixed martial arts, track & field, lacrosse, extreme sports, racing and even dog sledding and you get the feel that Upper Deck’s “World of Sports” set is really a different kind of trading card release.

That’s right! The “Evolution” video trading cards made their debut last season in football, but these innovative inserts take on the hard court. Lucky collectors may find “Evolution” basketball video trading cards of superstars like Michael Jordan, Chris Paul and more inserted into new boxes of Upper Deck’s “World of Sport.” This is the first-ever video trading card for Michael Jordan and with copies of the cards extremely limited, they are sure to be in high demand. Upper Deck’s new “World of Sports” set is currently available in stores now and each hobby box includes 20 packs with six cards per pack. Collectors can find three autographs or apparel cards in each box on average.

Featured Collector: Landon Donovan Surprises Super Collector at Christmas
Posted by: | CommentsVictoria Rutherford is an avid soccer fan and player at Strathmore High School in California. Her favorite player in the world is Landon Donovan, but unfortunately since the Home Depot Center is so far away and her schedule is so busy with school and soccer practice of her own, she has been unable to get away to a Los Angeles Galaxy game.
She doesn’t miss the games though making sure she catches them on cable usually cheering Landon and the rest of the team on to victory. Although she is from a small town with a population of just 225 near the Sequoia National Park, Victoria’s soccer team is currently ranked #1 in the Division 5 Central Section. She is hoping to help the Spartans take the championship this year much like Landon did with the Galaxy in the MLS Cup. Being that she is from a smaller town, she commutes about an hour each day to school, but still works hard and has a 4.24 GPA.
Does Victoria love soccer? Well the writing is on the wall, she loves it and especially Landon Donovan!
Her father Robert purchased a Landon Donovan signed piece through the Upper Deck online store for the holidays to give to Victoria. Brag Video: If Landon Donovan’s Jersey Could Talk

The uniform was signed by Landon and it will be offered up in the coming weeks through Upper Deck Authenticated’s Suite One-of-One program. During the signing session, we had a chance to talk to Landon about that wear on the uniform and that memorable goal. Check out what he had to say:

He battled hard that game and ultimately helped his team win in another memorable match. But after the game, after the flash bulbs stopped popping, what happened to his uniform? Well, he sent it to us.
