Brag Photo of the Week: 2009-10 NHL SP Authentic Unveiled
Posted by: | CommentsWorking for Upper Deck, we get to see a lot of really unique collectibles as our previously posted “Brag Photos” can attest. Items displayed in the office and one-of-a-kind memorabilia are all very cool, but what really gets our juices flowing here are the trading cards. I mean, that’s our bread and butter. It’s what we do best.
One of the brands that consistently performs the strongest for us and the one that many collectors anticipate the most each season is SP Authentic. Our SP Authentic brand is well known for having a premium design, signatures of athletes hard-signed on the actual cards and consistently delivering value with three autographs (on average) per box.
We have pushed back the release of our 2009-10 NHL SP Authentic launch a little bit in an effort to get more hard-signed signatures in the product, thus reducing redemptions. Some players, as you can imagine, are a little busy these days with the playoffs so it’s tough for them to sign, but we’re still chasing them down. As I know that many of our collectors can’t wait for the product to hit store shelves, I decided to head down to our product staging area where many of the autograph cards are stored until they are sent off to be packaged. I was happy to get approval to quickly go through and scan some of the more “drool-worthy” cards I could find in the short amount of time I had.
So without further adieu, I am pleased to present actual cards from the forthcoming release of Upper Deck’s 2009-10 NHL SP Authentic set.

Rookie Review Autograph Patches

Future Watch Autograph Patches
It was really cool to get to see so many of these cards, especially so many John Tavares rookies in one place. My hands were shaking a bit as I handled that box. I hope you enjoyed the preview. With more autographs coming in every day, we’re very excited to get this product to market. Maybe I’ll head down there again in a week or two for another preview. There was another product that looked pretty cool…

Brag Photo of the Week: Working at UD is Sweet!
Posted by: | CommentsWorking for a company with a legendary history like Upper Deck is a thrill. There are a lot of perks that go along with the job too. Many who work here appreciate our location as we are based in Carlsbad, California, just a few miles away from the ocean. Many of the sports card purists here appreciate being able to develop some of the most legendary sets in sports card history for collectors to enjoy. Others enjoy getting up close and personal with some of their favorite athletes.
I’ll be honest, there are a lot of things that make working at Upper Deck great, but for me, nothing beats working with shop owners and collectors to make sure they are enjoying our products. We often get thank you letters from customers and sometimes, even treats* from time to time. One of our larger retailers in Hawaii wanted to thank the Customer Service, Sales and Redemption teams for some assistance they provided recently and sent in some chocolates and other goodies from the islands. Helping out and getting recognized for it is pretty sweet to say the least.
Unfortunately sometimes when the treats are this good, some people might want to take more than their share. Therefore we have to bring in someone to keep an eye on things. Taking a break from another run to the Stanley Cup, we entrusted those duties to Sidney Crosby. Check it out, it’s almost like he’s saying, “I dare you to take two…”
*At Upper Deck we work hard to treat every customer on an individual basis. Sending thank you letters or treats are appreciated, but will not necessarily result in special treatment. As our customers, you are all special.

Brag Photo of the Week: The Captain’s Jersey
Posted by: | CommentsSometimes, when you work at Upper Deck, you get to explore the game-used room in all its glory. And hold stuff like this:

Note the “C” on the jersey, and you know who wore this one in a game.

When he’s not leading the Canadian team to Olympic Gold, Crosby’s day job is leading the Penguins to Stanley Cup championships in this black and gold jersey. Pretty cool to hold a jersey a guy like that wore on the job.
How about one more? I figured I might as well, since I was down there already.

Brag Photo of the Week: Guess Who’s Back . . . Back Again
Posted by: | CommentsHere’s a good look at the tools of the trade we have here at Upper Deck:

The shirt you see here is what Tiger wore in his last round of competitive golf at the Australian Masters, making it a very significant item. Oh, and he’ll be signing it for us in about two weeks.

What’s even more important is that Tiger will be making his return to competitive play a little more than a week from now. Upper Deck has been affiliated with Tiger for almost a decade now, and we’re very excited to see him back in action.
Oh, and about the items above? The polo and glove are available now through Upper Deck Customer Service at 1-800-551-8220. The other items will be available on our online store soon. And the ball? It was hit by Tiger himself at a range, and will be available in one of these:

You’ve seen us show off this new curve display for hockey before, but this is the first time we’ve shown it on the blog for golf. A great item for any Tiger fan, for sure. It comes with an autograph, and this one will be limited to only 50. And hey, check out the shirt he’s wearing in the photo! Stay tuned, this item will be released the week of the Masters.
